"We are cowards"

We are cowards haven't you heard
Refugee is no more the proper word

The millions of us who chose to flee
Due to civil war and complete poverty

We are lowly cowards full of shame
Who don't deserve the Afghan name

That we left our poor people is a disgrace
On Afghan soil we no longer have a place

We are cowards because we're still alive
Because it's only cowards who try to survive

It would have been better if we had stayed and died
At least then we would leave this world with some pride
